Program Overview

Do you want a career as a Homecare Aide (caregiver) for an Adult Family Home, Nursing Home or Home Care agency?  The caregiver position is in the top 5 most in demand positions in our nation.

Are you a friend or family member who is faced with suddenly caring for your loved one?  You can take our course to learn caregiving skills even if you do not want to get certified.  Please call us so that we can determine the skills you need to acquire and then we can register you for the applicable course material.  For example, you may only need to learn about dementia or mental health and not the actual hands on skills training.  We are here to support you in caring for your loved one!

You must be a certified Homecare Aide who has successfully passed the Washington State HCA certification test within 200 days of being hired. The training must be completed within 120 days of being hired and includes completion of 5 hours of Orientation/Safety Training immediately upon hire, 70 hours of Core Basic/Mental Health, and Dementia training and then successfully passing the Washington State certification examination.  Classes are held weekly in Kirkland.

In-Class Schedule:  The training course consists of one in-classroom meeting per week for 4 weeks (32 hours) and, during those 4 weeks, 43 hours of online coursework must be completed by the last class.  Access to the on-line course work is provided as part of your tuition.  You will receive additional information once you have called and registered for the class.   

Class 1 / Week 1 - Dementia part 1 (Population Specific) and Skills part 1

Class 2 / Week 2 - Dementia part 2 (Population Specific) and Skills part 2

Class 3 / Week 3 - Mental Health part 1 (Population Specific) and Skills part 3

Class 4 / Week 4 - Mental Health part 2 (Population Specific) and Skills part 4

The tuition is $599 if paid in full prior to start of class and $650 if paid weekly.  If you choose weekly you will pay $250.00 at registration and $100.00 each week until paid in full. You will not receive your certification until the tuition is paid in full. 

In addition, you will pay the Department of Health a $100.00 fee for the application and Prometrics approximately $150.00 for the testing fee, which is due within 10 days of starting your class.  We provide tutoring upon request for $25.00 per hour (4 hour minimum).
